Welcome to the Style Guide for UIQ 3. For many, the Style Guide is the jumping off point for getting to know UIQ 3 better. The Style Guide provides developers and interaction designers with guidelines on how to design application User Interfaces for the UIQ platform.
The Style Guide gives a good overview of the organization and function of key UIQ components.
The release of UIQ 3 means a great step forward for the UIQ User Interface. There are significant advances that in some ways make 3.0 a new product.
UIQ 2.1 was designed for advanced pen-based phones. UIQ 3 is designed for softkey as well as for pen-based phones. The new softkey interface uses the softkey-style UI configuration while the pen-based interface, as used in UIQ 2.1, uses what is now known as the pen-style UI configuration.
UIQ 3 can be used for mobile phones that have any one of a variety of form factors. The phone can be pen-based or softkey, portrait or landscape, and, this is provided on just one codeline. For developers this means that applications can be written once and used directly on any UIQ 3 device regardless of form factor. UIQ 3 takes care of rearranging the layout and adapting the application to the mobile phone’s interaction style.
