Graphics that have a fixed size are normally called icons. Previously, there has been a set of images for each icon, with each image tailored for a certain zoom level, or for other icons there has only been one size, regardless of the zoom level.
In UIQ 3, there is no set of images used for zooming. Zooming affects only the size of the text; the icon remains unchanged.
However, there are situations where more than one size of icon is need for a particular purpose. For those cases, there are three sizes of icons to choose from:
Small icon – 18 × 18 pixels, occupies one row. Small icons are typically used in Base and Detail views,
Large icon – 40 × 40 pixels, occupies two rows. Large icons are typically used in list-boxes with a double row or grid layout,
Extra large icon – 64 x 64 pixels.
Application icons must be provided in all three sizes. Small is used in the Application Launcher’s list view and large is used in the grid view and the Application Title area. The extra large icon is used when highlighting an application icon.
These two screen shots show how icons of the three different icon sizes are used. A large icon is used in the Application Title area and in the Application Launcher’s grid list box. An extra large icon is used for the highlighted application. Small icons are used in the Messaging application's base view.
