Carbide.c++

Carbide.c++ is a family of mobile development tools for Symbian OS built on the Eclipse framework. Carbide.c++ takes advantage of the Eclipse IDE framework through plug-in modules to support development for Symbian OS. Its features, depending on the edition, range from basic build and debug tools for SDKs (project importer, class browser, etc.) to more advance tools such as graphical UI designer and on-device debugging.

Carbide.c++ consists of four products:

MOTODEV Studio for UIQ

MOTODEV Studio for UIQ is an integrated development environment that lets you develop, debug, and deploy UIQ and Symbian OS applications. Based on the Eclipse open IDE framework, the MOTODEV Studio for UIQ beta release includes a package creation wizard, a device manager view, context-sensitive help, as well as sample applications.

Visual Studio .NET

Microsoft Visual Studio .NET is a development environment that enables programmers to rapidly build applications for Windows, the web, mobile web devices, the Pocket PC and other embedded devices. To use Visual Studio .NET 2003 or 2005 for UIQ 3 development requires the Carbide.vs for Microsoft Visual Studio .NET plugin.

VistaMax IDE for UIQ

Wirelexsoft's VistaMax IDE 2.0 for UIQ 3.0 is a complete end-to-end graphical based IDE for UIQ 3 with Rapid Application Development (RAD) capabilities and a "drag & drop" UI designer. Its extensive UI Elements palette (more than 100 UI elements) covers all aspects of UI design in UIQ 3.0, and removes the complexity of UI design on this very comprehensive platform. CodeWarrior for Symbian OS was designed for to develop for Symbian OS. This product is no longer in development. Carbide.c++ is recommended for new projects.

UIQ 3 SDK configuration plug-in for Carbide.c++

This UIQ 3 SDK configuration plug-in complements the standalone UIQ configuration tool and allows you to easily configure your UIQ 3 development environment from within the comfort of the Carbide.c++ (Eclipse) IDE. It is provided by Sony Ericsson Developer World.

Carbide.vs

Carbide.vs is an entry-level tool for developers who are familiar with Visual Studio .NET and want to create UIQ 3 applications. Carbide.vs extends the Visual Studio C++ project type with functionality specific to Symbian OS. The look and feel of Visual Studio is maintained wherever possible. Carbide.vs provides easy entry into Symbian OS C++ development with wizards and other automated functions that integrate with Visual Studio. User can get started with minimal manual configuration. Carbide.vs also contains functionality to automate several development tasks specific to Symbian OS, such as support for development with multiple SDKs, importing and creating projects, and automatic maintenance of key Symbian OS files.
